Liminal

Simon Petrie

Short Fiction

It’s like water-glass, I suggest to her, not properly knowing what water-glass is, nor what it is I’m comparing it to. To be honest, I didn’t hear what she’d said anyway, against the railway station’s turmoil. Truth be told, she’s not even here, waiting on this bustling platform alongside the other absent people; truth be told, I’m not here either. All that’s here are these words on paper, just shapes in ink, and whatever life they hold happens only in your mind, at this moment of reading. You should be careful with that, it can cause a lot of trouble.

Born and raised in New Zealand, Simon Petrie now lives in Australia. His work has appeared in Overland, Aurealis, Kaleidotrope, Sybil’s Garage, and elsewhere. He is a three-time winner of the Sir Julius Vogel award and received a coveted Dishonourable Mention in the 2012 Bulwer-Lytton competition.
