Skylar Shapiro is a San Francisco State Graduate, born and raised in the Bay Area. She studied both Finance and Cinema, and has written a variety of short films that range from comedies (Blind Dating the Blind) to dramas (Sacred Shelter). Through her time at State, she was actively involved in a variety of clubs including the Student Union Organization, Marketing Club, and elected Senior Editor for HerCampus SFSU, a college women-led online magazine. Skylar was also a candidate for Finance Honoree of 2024, and got invited to the SF Women’s Emerging Leadership Forum in 2023.

When she’s not working as a News Editor and Photographer, Skylar spends her time either reading with her two cats or solo-traveling around the world. She runs a blog titled “Universal Exposure,” where she writes about the ups and downs of being a girl in her 20’s, which inspired the book she’s slowly working on called This is Not a Self Help Book, a personal memoir.
Some of Skylar’s favorite books include Stephen King’s On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, Alex Michaelide’s The Maidens and The Silent Patient, as well as Delia Owens’s Where the Crawdads Sing. Her instagram can be found here, and her website can be found here.
